Wix compared
Wix or a managed restaurant website: what happens after the first weekend?
Wix is a real answer for a restaurant with more time than budget: you can have something live yourself, quickly, without asking anyone. The trade you are making is your own hours, forever. Every menu change, every holiday closure, every new photo is a job that lands back on you, usually at eleven at night, and the site quietly goes stale the first month service gets busy.
The honest case for doing it yourself
If you are opening with nothing, a self-built site beats no site by a wide margin. Guests need an address, hours and a menu somewhere other than a social profile, and getting that live this week is worth more than getting it perfect next quarter. We will say that on a demo call rather than pretend otherwise. What we are selling is the next stage, when the restaurant is running and the website has become the job nobody has time for.
What a self-built restaurant site usually gets wrong
Not the design, which is usually fine. It is the menu as a photo or a PDF, so no phone and no search engine can read it. It is one page for two locations. It is the reservation link living in a footer. It is hours that were right in March. Each of those costs you guests who were already searching for you, and none of them are hard to fix once somebody is responsible for fixing them.
Your time has a number on it
Work out what an hour of your time is worth on the floor, then count the hours a year you spend editing pages, resizing photos, fixing a layout that broke on a phone and chasing a change you forgot. That number, not the subscription fee, is the real comparison with a managed plan. We are not going to invent a figure for you, but it is worth doing on the back of an envelope before you decide.
What you get instead of a login
You get a team. A menu page structured as real text, a page per location, reservation and ordering links wired to the platforms you already run, weekly detail updates, five revisions a month at any size, managed hosting, a domain in your name, and researched articles publishing every week. You send a message; you do not open an editor.
Side by side for a restaurant
Read the middle column as what a plan here covers, and the right column as what the alternative asks of you. Where an answer depends on how the other option is set up, it says so rather than guessing.

Which one fits your restaurant?
When Wix is the better choice
- You are opening in three weeks and need anything at all online.
- Budget is the binding constraint and your time is genuinely free.
- You enjoy building it and it is a break from the kitchen rather than another chore.
- The menu is stable and the site is effectively a business card.
When a managed site wins
- You have edited the site twice this year and both times it was months late.
- Your menu or specials change with the season or the week.
- You want to be found for your dishes and your neighbourhood, not just your name.
- You are spending on ads and want a fast, relevant page behind them.
Moving a self-built site over
Send us the address and we take it from there: the pages, photos and menu content worth keeping are rebuilt properly, old addresses are redirected, and your domain points at the new site only once you have approved it. If your menu currently lives in a PDF or a photo, it comes out of there and becomes a real page.
Talk it through on a demoWhat a restaurant owner noticed after the switch
The reservation button sits next to the room description and the tasting menu instead of in a footer, and the private dining enquiries arrive with the date and the party size already filled in.

Questions about Wix
Is Wix good enough for a restaurant?
For a new restaurant with no site and no budget, yes, it is better than nothing and it is quick. It stops being enough when the site needs to change every week, when you run more than one location, or when the menu needs to be readable by search engines rather than uploaded as a file.
Can you move my existing Wix site?
Yes. We rebuild the pages and menu content worth keeping, set up redirects from the old addresses, and switch the domain over once you approve the new site, so there is no gap where guests cannot find you.
What happens to my domain if it was registered through the platform?
You keep it. We either point the existing domain at the new site or, if you prefer, register one in your name as part of the plan. Either way the domain stays yours and transfers out free if you leave.
Will I still be able to make quick edits myself?
You will not need to, and that is the design. You send a change through your client portal and we publish it, any size counting as one revision, completed within the standard turnaround.
Why not just keep my site and pay someone hourly to update it?
That works until it does not: hourly billing makes people put off small changes, and small changes are exactly what a restaurant site needs. Our plans include five revisions a month at any size, so a price fix and a full seasonal menu cost the same.
Is a custom built site really faster than a template?
What matters is how much the page sends to the browser. Templates carry code for every feature they might need; we build only what your page uses, and every page is held to the PageSpeed target in your plan rather than just the homepage.
Can I keep the design I already built?
If you like it, we can carry the look, the colours and the photography across. Most owners use the move to fix the menu structure and the mobile layout and keep everything else recognisable.
How long does the switch take?
The launch timeline for your plan, counted from the onboarding call rather than the day you pay, so getting your menu, hours and photos to us quickly is what keeps the date.
